Duplex itself is still only limited to making restaurant reservations - no other types of businesses are reported yet. In essence, Google Assistant would automatically call a restaurant for you one that doesnt have an online reservation system to speak to and listen to a human on the other end and confirming a slot for whatever time window you ask. Notably, India already has assistant support to host Duplex, but the final answer still remains to be seen. Continued Conversations is rolling out over "the next few days" to all Smart Displays powered by the Google Assistant in the USA that are set to English. This latter was also a concern with Google's Call Screen feature for Android which was later addressed by providing transcripts of the call. In the past, Google Duplex was only working in some major areas, such as San Francisco, New York, and Atlanta.
Are you planning on trying out Duplex when it arrives for iOS devices later this year?
To book a reservation, users must tell the Google Assistant where they would like to eat, when they want the table booked for, and how many people will be joining. The new feature is coming to Smart Displays powered by the Google Assistant, but you will only get to use the new feature if you are in the United States.
As of now, users of the original Pixel, Pixel 2, and Pixel 3 smartphones can use Duplex if they are in any of the 43 U.S. states. Google offered The Verge the following statement about those last few States.
As for the states that where Duplex now isn't available - Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska and Texas - Google says that it is working with local and state laws to ensure that it bring the service to residents.
