After several proposals were knocked back by the Pelicans, the trade deadline passed and Davis was forced to remain in New Orleans.
The star big man has made clear he'd like to be traded somewhere else, with the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics being among the rumored destinations. Obviously, this saga likely hurt both teams this season and now, neither will be making the postseason. Davis was wearing a T-shirt that said "That's all Folks!" on it, written in the same script that appears at the end of Looney Tunes cartoons.
A grinning Anthony Davis emerged from the Pelicans' weight room holding one of his white No. 23 game jerseys and tossed it over the shoulder of guard Jrue Holiday, mumbling, "so you won't forget about me", as he walked away.
Davis added that he's waiting for the team to fill their vacant general manager position. "I can't be mad if I'm still here next year".
The six-time All-Star said he is eager to see whom the Pelicans hire as GM and to meet with that person. You never know what might happen later in your career.
Now, many of those reactions came prior to Davis showing up to the Smoothie King Center in a shirt that had "That's all Folks" written across it on Tuesday night. "It was hanging for me already when I put my clothes on". "I actually didn't choose it".
Davis' future teammates now know they can easily prank him by putting any number of ridiculous items in his locker. Heard some stuff about Space Jam, I heard some stuff about, this is a shot at the Pelicans, this is his last game.
"I think he's a great kid".
The end of this season has been incredibly weird for Anthony Davis.
