For instance, she was concerned that Kline had approved President Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner's top-secret clearance after it was rejected by two career White House security specialists.
According to the memo, Newbold and a first-line adjudicator denied "Official 1" security clearance after a background investigation revealed "significant disqualifying factors, including foreign influence, outside activities ('employment outside or businesses external to what your position at the EOP [Executive Office of the President] entails'), and personal conduct".
White House Personnel Security Office employee Tricia Newbold told the House Oversight and Reform Committee last month about a systematic breakdown in the White House security clearance process.
"We are getting reports from press and from a wide variety of sources that indicate that ... folks are suggesting that we are conducting foreign relations with folks with security clearances via WhatsApp", Ocasio-Cortez said.
"I would not be doing a service to myself, my country, or my children if I sat back knowing that the issues that we have could impact national security", Newbold told the committee, according to a panel document summarizing her allegations.
Ms Newbold said she made a decision to speak to the panel after repeated attempts to share her concerns with superiors were ignored, adding that it was her "last hope to really bring the integrity back to our office", according to a committee-released transcript of her interview on Monday. After reviewing the report, Attorney General William P. Barr sent a four-page letter to Congress last week, saying Mueller "did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russian Federation in its efforts to influence the 2016 US presidential election".
MEE asked Cummings' office on Monday whether Newbold was specifically asked about Kushner during the 23 March interview and how she responded, but did not receive a response by time of publication.
In his ten years on the Oversight committee, Jordan said he'd "never seen anything like this".
Jim Jordan, the committee's ranking Republican, said in a statement that Cummings'd probe is a "partisan attack" and an "excuse to go fishing" through personnel files.
AOC then said that it was necessary to issue subpoenas to Trump administration officials because they were refusing to cooperate with basic oversight requests. And I think Democrats know that, and I think what they are doing is unsafe.
Barr has said he will issue a redacted copy of Mueller's full report by mid-April, but Democrats want it without redactions and have demanded it be given to them this week.
Kushner laughed and said: "Look, I can say that in the White House I work with some phenomenal people and I think over the last two years the president's done a phenomenal job of identifying what are our national security priorities".
Cummings said on Tuesday these conditions were unacceptable.
